The More I See - The Wolves Are Hungry (9,5/10) - Great Britain - 2004

Already their debut “Don’t Look Now ... I’m Living” of England’s THE MORE I SEE convinced me and it was obvious, that the guys from Peterborough have enough potential to show off. Now, this potential is finally shown on “The Wolves Are Hungry” but it was never expected, that it would take them to such a high level. Their first full-length album exceeds all expectations and it’s not exaggerated to call it a highlight of the year. THE MORE I SEE are pure Metal, although they have also their rocky sides. Their spectrum of influences is that broaden, you can’t categorize it clearly.

Whether you take the brutal rhythm work like PANTERA, the thrashy flair a la METALLICA or ANTHRAX, the squiggled arrangements of TOOL, the rough touches of ALICE IN CHAINS or the melodic uniqueness of acts like CAVE-IN, this band seems to have no boundaries. Furthermore, there come another bands into your mind, that altogether cumulate in THE MORE I SEE. Besides three songs from their 5-track debut (“Born Freaks“, “Friend Turned Enemy“ and “Smile“), which excellently fit to the other songs, you can find exclusive new tracks and they’ve got it all. Already the opener “Violate” is more than great and THE MORE I SEE take the assault on right from the start. “Violate” is also one of the highlights of “The Wolves Are Hungry” and a sure check out tip. It’s perfectly-arranged and it has everything, a headbanger wants too. Razorsharp guitars, powerful and distinctive vocals, a pressuring drumming and a playful as well as technical maturity, to turn their ideas into reality. Extended guitar solos are as well available as short acoustic passages (“Fall”) or heavily groovy instrumental parts.

It’s almost impossible to emphasize one single song as the entire material is on highest level. It doesn’t matter if you listen randomly to the songs of “The Wolves Are Hungry” or if you listen selected songs like “Suck On These Words”, “Chez Wrong” or “Last Hope”. There is to say, that every song offers more and more details after some spins and these songs remain that strong in your mind, they never lose their appeal. It wouldn’t be surprising, if THE MORE I SEE are the next big thing in Great Britain. They had help from exceptional producer Andy Sneap, he cared about the mix of the album and he gave the album the finishing touch. Soundwise, “The Wolves Are Hungry” is absolutely top and the twelve songs are wrapped up in a pressuring production. So, if you’re looking for a great and beating Metal album, then get THE MORE I SEE. Do yourself a favour and take notice of them, write them down on your shopping list and buy this fabulous piece of music. Trust me, you won’t regret it!!! (Online November 8, 2004)
